Executive functions

Executive functions are functions of the brain that allow humans to overcome impulsive, short-term reactions to their environment and to instead set long-term goals, plan effective strategies for reaching those goals, monitor their progress, and modify strategies as needed.

Contextual Use: In order to support Adam's executive functions in an assessment situation, his teacher provided him with a graphic organizer indicating all the items on his test. The graphic also showed him where he could take a break. Adam could monitor his progress as he completed test items.
